Wearing an antistatic wrist strap whilst working with computer parts can help stop damage occurring to the components. This is because a small shock which is harmless to humans can pass from the human to the computer component and damage it. The main purpose of the antistatic wrist strap is to equalise the electrical charge between the worker and the equipment. The antistatic strap is a conductor that’s connects your body and the equipment together. Below I will tell you a how to wear the strap. Wrap the strap tightly around your wrist and secure it using thhe Velcro. The metal on the back of the wrist strap must be in contact with your skin at all times. Attach the connector on the end of the wire to the wrist strap and connect the other end to the equipment you are working on. When connecting the wire to the equipment attach it to an unpainted surface because painted surfaces doesn’t conduct electricity. You can also reduce the chance of damaging the equipment by not wearing silk, polyester or wool whilst working on the equipment because they generate static energy. An antistatic mat is slightly conductive and it works by drawing static electricity away from the computer components. Lay the mat on the workspace next to or under the computer case. Clip the mat to the case to provide a grounded surface so the electricity can be deposited there. When you work at a workbench you should ground the workbench and the antistatic floor mat. By standing on the mat and wearing the wrist strap, your body with have the same charge as the equipment and reduces the probability of ESD. Toolkits Screws can become stripped if they are over tightened, so you have to make sure that you screw them clockwise until tight but not over tightened. You turn the screw anticlockwise if you want to unscrew the screw. There are a number of different screw drivers with different ends to screw different screws. Flat head screwdriver and Phillips head screwdriver. Some of the equipment is magnetic so you have to take care. Cleaning your computer: Keeping your computer clean inside and out is critical part of the computer maintenance program. Dirt and dust can cause problems with the fans, buttons and other mechanical components. Dust can act as an insulator if lots builds up and could trap in heat and over heat the machine. Before cleaning any device make sure you have power the machine down from the power source. Computer cases and monitors: Clean computer cases and monitors with a mild cleaning solution on a damp lint cloth will help clean the dirt and dust from the computer. Wait for the damp to dry from the computer before turning it back on. Clean dusty components with a can of compressed air. Compressed air doesn’t cause electrostatic buildup on components. But you have to make sure you are in a well ventilated area and also wear a dust mask to stop you inhaling the dust. You can clean the components of the computer with some isopropyl alcohol. Do not use rubbing alcohol this can damage the components. Make sure you blow off any lint using the compressed air before reinstallation. Cleaning your keyboard and mouse: Use a hand held vacuum cleaner or compressed air to blow out any unwanted dust and dirt that maybe caught in between the keys. Cleaning the out side of the mouse with a glass cleaning product on a soft cloth will be adequate. When cleaning the ball of the mouse with the same product will get all the dust and dirt off it as well. You can easy remove the ball of the mouse.
